WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – For the second consecutive year, Frostburg State Men's Lacrosse was selected second in the ECC Preseason Poll, while snatching ECC Men's Lacrosse Preseason Defensive Player of the Year this time around, with senior long stick midfielder Seamus Kearney receiving the honor. All was announced on Wednesday by the league office.
After their third straight appearance in the ECC title game in 2024, Frostburg was picked second right behind the defending champions of Mercy. FSU showed one first-place vote in the poll, scoring a total of 39 points, coming in between Mercy and Roberts Wesleyan. The Bobcats are coming off a 13-4 season, going for a 5-1 record in conference play, while earning another spot in the USILA rankings throughout the season.
Kearney is one of few key players to return to the field for Frostburg, coming off First Team All-ECC and USILA All-Region honors in 2024. Kearney became just the second player in program history to surpass 100 career caused turnovers a year ago, going for 31 on the season along with 46 groundballs. Kearney helped FSU reach the most caused turnovers per a game in the ECC, while leading the team to the best scoring defense in the conference, allowing just 9.41 goals per game. Kearney led the Bobcats himself in total caused turnovers for second most in the conference.
FSU opens their season on the road against Walsh at 1 PM in North Canton, Ohio on Saturday, February 22. The Bobcats then host their home opener on Sunday, March 2, as the team welcomes in Saint Anselm at 12 PM.
