Four in Double Figures in Men's Basketball Home Loss to Concord

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball Team dropped their home contest to Concord University by a score of 84-74 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats were first on the board as junior Sebastian Ghase laid one in for a quick 2-0 lead. Concord answered back with a in-the-paint hook shot to tie thingsat 2-2. Junior Koby Baptiste held the ball at the top of the key and knocked down a three to take a 5-2 lead. Two layups in a row allowed for the Mountain Lions to take the lead 6-5. Ghase, with an offensive rebound, kicked it out to senior Jaylon Johnson for a driving layup and a 7-6 game. An FSU turnover resulted in a CU layup to take the lead 8-7. Johnson with a jumper was not enough for CU's three, as FSU trailed by two 11-9. Freshman Logan Lewis checked in the game and created space for a jumper to tie things up at 11. A three for the Mountain Lions put them up one 14-13, even after another layup from Lewis. Senior Jaylin Albury took the ball to the rim and allowed FSU a one-point lead 15-14 around the 13 minute mark.

A scoreless minute went by until Concord put up a dunk and a three while junior JayShaun Freeman put up a layup and a jumper to tie things at 19. A few plays later, the Mountain Lions knocked down a three, but trailed on defense which resulted in a slam dunk from Ghase for a 22-21 game in favor of CU. Traded threes by CU and freshman Malcolm Day still saw FSU trailing by one 25-24. Concord missed their next bucket, as freshman Zane McCarty pushed the ball to senior Justin Roseme for three and the lead 27-25. A floater by CU tied the game, but Roseme hit another three for a 30-27 lead. Buckets were traded for the remainder of the half, as the score saw another tie game at 38-38 as Johnson knocked down his first three. CU was able to outscore FSU and went into halftime up 46-38.

Concord put up a quick four points to go up 12to open the second half. Roseme and Baptiste both knocked down threes, while Concord put up a layup to remain ahead 52-44. Johnson and CU both with layups saw the score at 54-46. Concord missed their next shot, and Roseme hit another three to bring the game to 54-48. A layup and a few free throws for the Mountain Lions increased their lead to 57-48. Day and Lewis combined for five, while CU saw three.  Back-to-back layups for Concord and good three by Johnson saw the score 64-56, still in favor of Concord, with under ten minutes left to go.

The Mountain Lions went on seven-point run before FSU saw a made free throw to bring the score to 71-57. On the following play, Concord had a fast break layup to increase their lead to 73-57. Baptiste was able to get open for a three to narrow CU's lead to 73-60. With under five minutes to play, FSU was able to outscore Concord to get the game within seven with points from five different Bobcats, but the Mountain Lions came out on top 84-74.

Four Bobcats scored in double-figures, in Baptiste (16), Roseme (15), Johnson (14), and Lewis (12). Albury led with six assists, as Baptiste finished with three steals and tied Lewis for six boards.

With the conclusion of this game, FSU falls to an overall record of 2-18 and a conference record of 2-11, while Concord moves to an overall record of 13-4 and a conference record of 9-4.
