Men's Wrestling Completes Regular Season With Split Between KWC, #23 GSU

GLENVILLE, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team split their Thursday tri-meet, defeating Kentucky Wesleyan 43-11 before falling to the No. 23 Pioneers 39-12.
 
FSU got out to a quick start against the Panthers, as freshman Alex Bellarin earned a pin in just 46 seconds, followed by a forfeit at 133 for a 12-0 lead. KWC got on the board with a tech fall at 141, but freshman Gage Heilbrun worked an 11-0 major decision and freshman Mason Buckler pinned his opponent in round one for a 22-5 lead.
 
Kentucky Wesleyan got six points back through a pinfall at 165, but the final four bouts went Frostburg's way, including pins from freshmen Duncan Kammar and Gavin Bage and a 4-2 decision from redshirt sophomore Nick McCarthy, eventually leading to the 43-11 final.

165 lbs: Bryar Lane (KWC) over Liam DeBaugh (FSU) Fall 1:06 – FSU leads 22-11
174 lbs: Duncan Kammar (FSU) over Shevan Griffith (KWC) Fall 1:54 – FSU leads 28-11
184 lbs: Nick McCarthy (FSU) over Drayden McKerrow (KWC) Decision 4-2 – FSU leads 31-11
197 lbs: William Applegarth (FSU) wins by default – FSU leads 37-11
285 lbs: Gavin Bage (FSU) over Kelton Farmer (KWC) – FSU wins 43-11
 
In a tougher task against MEC Champion Glenville State, the hosts won every bout outside of a forfeit at 133 lbs and Bage earning the Bobcats a pinfall at 285 lbs. GSU took pins at 125 and 165 lbs, while earning tech falls at 149, 174, 184, and 197 lbs. Of the losses, Frostburg's closest match came through redshirt sophomore Dylan Montgomery, who was defeated 11-6 at 141 lbs.

With the split, Frostburg ends their dual season at 14-13 and will next travel to Kutztown, Pa. for the NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament on Saturday, March 2. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
