Women's Wrestling Wins Three of Four Matchups at Adrian Duals

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Frostburg State women's wrestling team continued their impressive start to the season at the Adrian Duals with three wins on the day for a combined 137 team points.

The Bobcats competed in four duals in total, facing off against Brock, D'Youville, Hiram and John Carroll, earning victories over the latter three while falling to the former by just five points.

In the first dual against D' Youville sophomore Jada Fowler picked up the first non-forfeit points for FSU, winning by pin at a time of 3:44 at the 124-weight class. The Bobcats continued the momentum with sophomore Brianna Holcomb on the mat getting a tech fall, then after a double forfeit at the 138 class, Frostburg swept the final four events. Senior Shani Tyson, junior Samira Stephens, and sophomores Maria Hiles and Jocelyn Cacek all earned wins, leading to a final 39-4 score to start the day.

The second dual was against Brock, FSU's the only loss on the day, with the Badgers taking four of the first five bouts, as Holcomb stayed unbeaten getting a quick pin just over a minute in. Tyson and Cacek also got pins for the Bobcats, but losses at 160 and 180 lbs were enough for BU to take the 27-22 score.

Frostburg got back into the winning way in the third dual of the day facing off against Hiram, whom the Bobcats had lost to last season 29-20. Hiram picked up three wins in the early classes before Fowler won by forfeit and then Holcomb got her third win and second fall of the day to get FSU started. Frostburg won the rest of the weight classes, including freshman Amber Hunter-Snyder and junior Sarah Sunday getting wins to push FSU to a 24-point team win.

To cap off the day, the Bobcats met John Carroll on the mat, as Holcomb finished off a perfect day with another pin. Hunter-Snyder, Tyson and Hiles all picked up pins to finish off the match, as Frostburg won by a team score of 40-10.

With the three victories, FSU moves to 4-1 on the season as they head into the Adrian Open tomorrow for individual tournament brackets. More information will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
