#3 Golden Eagles Prove Too Much for Men's Soccer in Five Goal Victory

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The No. 3 Charleston Golden Eagles were too much to handle for the Frostburg State Men's Soccer team in a 5-0 decision on Sunday afternoon.

Throughout the first 20 minutes of the match, neither side was able to generate many clear-cut chances. UC had the lions' share of possession, but each of their first three shots were blocked by the Bobcat defense. FSU saw their first opportunity come as junior Carlos Quintero Rivas was played down the left wing, unleashing a furious strike that crashed off the outside of the near post and out.

A couple minutes later, it was Charleston's turn to hit the woodwork, as Joao Belmudes whipped a free kick from 20 yards out off the outside pipe. Another pair of Golden Eagle efforts were charged down by Frostburg's defense, attempting to hold out the hosts' attacks. Those efforts were broken with just over 15 minutes to go, as a misplaced header in the box landed right at Jack Kay's feet, as he was able to round freshman Jan Foret for a tap-in as the game's opening goal.

Five minutes after the goal, Kay forced Foret into a save before being gifted a through ball on a poor FSU back pass that left him with just the netminder to beat, slotting in for a 2-0 advantage. The UC pressure only mounted from there, as a pass came into the middle from the right wing, finding Jose Suarez Monaco at the top of the box, slicing across the ball to put the lead at three.

As the half wound down, the Golden Eagles continued to make Foret work, as he made another pair of saves in the final 10 minutes. Frostburg made an attack into Charleston territory late on, as senior Laki Psallidas tested his luck, though the shot was blocked and spun out for a corner, which brought the first 45 to a close at 3-0.

UC wasted little time in keeping their foot on the gas, scoring with a Caio Moraes hit into the top corner for a 4-0 score. Foret continued his best efforts, making another pair of saves before Ethan Zarka scored the fifth and final tally on a breakaway with 30 left to play.

After an easy Foret save off a Charleston free kick, he booted the ball up the field, where freshman Dom Good laid a ball across to senior Abdur-Rahman Neama, but as he cut in on his left foot, couldn't generate enough power to beat Nicolai Gunderson in goal. The final 25 minutes featured little in the way of chances for either team, with Foret making one more save as the final whistle blew at a 5-0 final.

UC commanded the chances with 24 shots to FSU's three, with just one of the Bobcats' shots on target. Foret made seven saves in net on 12 Golden Eagle efforts on goal.

With the loss, Frostbug drops to 6-2-1 on the year, while Charleston remains unbeaten at 9-0-1. FSU returns home on Wednesday, October 9 to face Davis & Elkins at 5 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
