SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State men's wrestling team won two of three meets at the Shippensburg Duals, defeating the Raiders and American International while falling to #21 Mercyhurst.
 
The Bobcats opened the day off against host Shippensburg, taking points in the first two weight classes with freshman Alex Bellarin winning by forfeit and junior Thierno Diallo earning a technical fall. Freshman Gage Heilbrun got the first FSU pin on the day, winning his 149 match. Freshman Gavin Bage made his way back to the mat and continued his solid first year, picking up a fall in 1:17. Frostburg went on to win over the Raiders by a score of 39-19. 
 
The second dual on the day was a much taller task for the Bobcats. Mercyhurst came into the day ranked tied for 21^st in the most recent NWCA team rankings and also feature two NWCA top 10 individual wrestlers. The dual was close in the beginning with the first match going to the Lakers and Diallo picking up a major decision in the second weight class. The turning point in the dual came at the 149 matchup, as Heilbrun had a great fight, taking things to overtime after evening up the match late in the third period, but ultimately couldn't finish it out, giving MU the decision win. Mercyhurst went on a five-win streak, as Bage ended the dual on a high note, picking up his second pin of the day, this one coming in the second period. The Lakers won by a final score of 38-10.
 
The final dual of the day came against AIC, who had to forfeit four of their matches. Freshman Mason Buckler picked up the first FSU contested win of the dual with a quick pin in 59 seconds. Freshman Nick McCarthy won a decision 7-3, as the day was capped off with Bage picking up his third win of the day on the way to a final of 38-18.
 
The Bobcats now stand at 11-12 on the season as they prepare to head into the Mountain East Championsips, which will be held at West Liberty on Saturday, January 27 starting at 9 AM.  The Bobcats currently sit in third in the conference standings.
