FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball team fell at home 106-78 to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Wednesday night.
Â
Much like the weather outside, FSU began the game cold from the floor, with just one basket through the first four minutes, as NDC jumped out to a 15-2 lead on the back of three triples. Redshirt sophomore Justin Roseme got the Bobcats going with a trey of his own off an assist from junior Robby Williams, who then got a tough layup in the lane. Freshman Malcolm Day hit a mid-range jumper, then Roseme hit again from deep, got a steal and was fouled, making both at the line to suddenly pull Frostburg within four at 18-14.
Â
The Falcons responded with seven unanswered, but FSU fought back with a three from junior JayShaun Freeman and back-to-back layups by senior Jaylon Johnson and Day to get back within 25-23. Each side traded buckets back-and-forth, with Williams and Freeman nailing back-to-back shots from behind the arc on assists from freshman Zane McCarty, leading to a 34-31 score at the under-five timeout.
Â
In a seven-possession span, the teams matched each other make for make, as freshman Logan Lewis had a steal and two at the charity stripe followed by a smooth jumper in the lane for a 38-37 score with two minutes left in the half. Those two minutes would belong nearly entirely to Notre Dame, who made two threes and three layups in a late flurry that put them ahead 50-39 at the break.
Â
NDC didn't cool off in the second half, coming out with a trey and two lay-ins to maintain their double-digit advantage. Senior Sean Brown Jr. and Roseme tried to keep FSU's offense moving, but the Falcons couldn't miss, using a 13-4 run to push ahead 74-53 with 12 minutes on the clock. Day scored six of the next eight Frostburg points to get back within 15, to which Notre Dame responded with eight straight points. Lewis and Roseme combined for nine of FSU's last 13 points, as NDC continued to convert their possessions, eventually surpassing the century mark on their way to a 106-78 victory.
Â
Roseme led the Bobcats with 15 points, setting a new career-high, and a game-high four steals, as Lewis (14), Freeman (12), Williams (11), and Day (10) all joined him in double-figure scoring.
Â
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 2-13 on the year, while Notre Dame improves to 7-7. The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, January 20 to face Salem (WV) on the road at 4 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
