Field Hockey Drops Road Game to #7 Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Frostburg State Field Hockey team dropped their road game to the seventh ranked Millersville Marauders by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night.

The Marauders were quick to get the jump on the Bobcats, scoring a goal in the first five minutes of the game. Millersville was strong with their offensive game, as they kept the ball in Frostburg's defensive half majority of the quarter. This was prevalent, as the Marauders scored their second goal of the game under ten minutes in.  FSU was able to get the ball into their defensive half late in the first, as they earned a shot on goal in the last few seconds of the quarter, but were unable to capitalize.

Bringing the energy and momentum from the first quarter, the Marauders scored within the first twenty seconds of the second quarter, making the game 3-0. Frostburg was able to achieve more offensive action in the second, with freshman Morgan Sparks having a look on goal, which resulted in a penalty corner for FSU. This started the Bobcats fire, as Frostburg was able to add to their shots on goal and receive a few more penalty corners. Although the offensive action spiked, the score remained 3-0 in favor of Millersville heading into the break.

Coming out of halftime the teams were evenly matched, with both teams earning shots on goal, penalty corners, and fouls.  Both teams played solid defense, as neither team was able to get goal on the board in the third.

Millersville quickly added to their score in the fourth, knotting a goal within the first minute of the quarter. Moments after Millersville took a 4-0 lead, junior Femke Hofkamp put the Bobcats on the board, scoring with just over ten minutes left in the game. The Marauders looked to make multiple substitutions to spread out their playing time, as Hofkamp took advantage of the change in line up, scoring another goal off an assist from junior Macy Layfield. With nine minutes remaining, Frostburg's fight came up short, dropping the game with a final of 4-2.

With the conclusion of the game, Frostburg falls to an overall record of 4-3, while Millersville moves to a record of 4-1. FSU is back on the road, as they take on Maryville in Mansfield, PA on Saturday, September 23 at 11 AM. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
