Medina Scores Late Winner in Men's Soccer Win Over Tigers

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team earned themselves a comeback victory, defeating Salem (WV) on the road by a final score of 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Salem struck first, finding the back of the just over six minutes into the game. Frostburg made their first attempt at goal almost two minutes later, as sophomore Carlos Quintero Rivas fired one wide right. The Tigers had a duo of shots in response, with graduate Joel Assal earning himself his first save of the day. Salem kept their offensive momentum going, keeping the ball on their offensive side of the field, firing a trio of shots. Both teams exchanged multiple fouls and free kicks, before FSU tied the game at one a piece as sophomore Danny Medina shot one low passed the Tigers goalie.

A short two minutes later, the Bobcats put together a perfect play, as junior Laki Psallidas found senior Gage Adam for a 2-1 Frostburg lead. After back and forth play, Salem made a run at goal with under three minutes left to play in the half, finding the back of the net once more for a 2-2 game. FSU finished the half with one more shot, but was stopped by the keeper, leaving the game tied at two apiece heading into the break.

Frostburg wasted no time to start their offense in the second half, as graduate Alex Flores fired a shot at goal that missed left just 25 seconds in. Both teams traded shots that were off target, until the Tigers put one right on goal, as Assal made another nice safe to keep the game tied. Salem got a little ahead of themselves getting called for offsides and back-to-back fouls, trying to push for the lead.

With exactly five minutes left in regulation, Psallidas found himself with another assist, finding Medina for another goal and a 3-2 Bobcat lead. Both teams got a little aggressive with time winding down, trading fouls once more along with yellow cards. Defense stepped up for both teams in the last few minutes, as neither team found themselves with a chance at goal, allowing Frostburg to come out on top 3-2.
