CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Baseball team fell to Concord 5-2 in their second game of the MEC Baseball Championship, presented by YES! Chevrolet and YES! Ford.
Junior Max Proctor got the start on the mound for Frostburg, striking out the first batter he saw to start the game. Concord quickly got one on the board with a solo homer in the top of the first. FSU wouldn't get their first hit of the game until the second inning, with sophomore Mikey Guy leading off with a single to center field, soon to be scored as senior Trevor Jones smacked a two-run homer over the left field fence for a 2-1Â Bobcat lead.
The Mountain Lions responded right back in the third, scoring two more runs to take a 3-2 lead. Sophomore Randy Steen singled to lead off the bottom half of the inning but was stranded on base to leave the game at 3-2 in favor of Concord.
Proctor got three quick outs to open the fourth, fanning two more batters for five strikeouts on the day. Sophomore Cy Probst ripped a single up the middle for the lone Bobcat hit in the bottom half of the inning, but was left stranded. CU came up with insurance runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, making it a 5-2 game late on. Senior Jack Maruskin came on pitch in the seventh, earning himself five strikeouts and keeping the Mountain Lions hitless to end the game. FSU wasn't able to generate any additional offense in the final innings, giving Concord their second straight win of the tournament.Â
With the win, Frostburg falls to 31-19 on the year, while the Mountain Lions move to 29-19. The Bobcats will now play West Liberty in an elimination game at 6 PM from the Welsh Athletic Complex on the campus of Charleston (WV). Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.Â
