Women’s Lacrosse Falls to No. 8 East Stroudsburg

SPARKS, Md. - The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team fell to No. 8 East Stroudsburg by a final score of 12-8 at the US Lacrosse Headquarters on Thursday evening.

Frostburg gained possession on the opening draw, but allowed East Stroudsburg to capitalize on a turnover, allowing the Warriors to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. After exchanging turnovers, FSU evened the game at one on a goal from junior Anna Kearney. The Warriors responded with back-to-back goals pushing to a 3-1 lead. Frostburg swung the momentum back to their side, taking advantage of a man-up opportunity as senior Lilly Stephens scored on a free position. The Bobcats continued to dominate the draw taking all seven of the first quarter. Another win of a draw, led to another FSU goal and a tie game at 3-3 as sophomore Kerri Hayes scored the final goal of the quarter.

FSU came out hot scoring two early goals in the second, as the first one came from freshman Neila Haney. Senior Cammie Schniedwind then found Haney again for a 5-3 Bobcat lead. The score held until the last few minutes of the second when ESU jumped back in front on three quick goals and a halftime lead of 6-5.

East Stroudsburg won the ball to open the second half as sophomore Nicole Gray made a big save on a quick shot from the Warriors. Kearney scored her second goal of the night on a free position to tie things up again, this time at six apiece. The Warriors responded taking the lead again just over a minute later. Gray would have four saves to hold that score for over six minutes before ESU added to their lead, making the game 8-6. Freshman Emily Lamoreaux scored with just under four minutes left in the third on a feed form Stephens, pulling the Bobcats back within one. The Warriors would add one more goal before the fourth on a free position to make the score 9-7.

The Warriors came out with two insurance goals to add to their lead in the first five minutes of the fourth. Frostburg would find the back of the net one more time, as Haney scored the lone goal of the quarter for the Bobcats. ESU tallied one more goal at the 4:18 mark, securing their 12-8 victory.

Haney led the way for the Bobcats securing a hat trick on the day, as Kearney tallied two goals herself. Gray made a stand in goal finishing with 16 saves.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 1-2 on the season while East Stroudsburg improves 2-1. The Bobcats will stay on the road to face Findlay out of Ohio on Sunday, March 12 at 12 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
