FINDLAY, Ohio – Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team dropped a close one to the University of Findlay with a final score of 14-11 on Sunday afternoon.
Frostburg got on the board early with junior Anna Kearney finding the back of the net just over a minute into the game, allowing the Bobcats to jump out to an early 1-0 lead. Findlay quickly responded scoring their first goal of the game just over a minute and a half later. The Oilers kept that momentum scoring, two more goals to take a 3-1 lead. FSU quickly got two goals back in the span of 23 seconds, tying the game at three, off goals from freshman Neila Haney and freshman Dahlia Trippel. Findlay scored one more goal in the first to edge a 4-3 lead heading into the second quarter.
Both teams started the second quarter battling back and forth for around seven minutes before Frostburg scored back-to-back goals as Haney knotted her hat trick for the day off assists from senior Cammie Schniedwind and Trippel, giving the Bobcats a 5-4 lead. The Oilers regained their offensive spark, scoring three straight goals to end the quarter and take a 7-5 lead going into halftime.
Findlay kept their offensive momentum going in the second half, scoring two more goals, jumping out to a 9-5 lead. Kearney scored her second goal of the day at the 10:43 mark, bringing the Bobcats within three. Both teams traded a pair of goals to end the quarter, as freshman Emily Lamoreaux and sophomore Julia Badolato tallied their first goals of the day, as Findlay had the 11-8 advantage heading into the final quarter.
The Oilers added two more goals to their lead, scoring the first two goals of the fourth quarter. FSU showed some fight scoring three straight goals, two more from Haney and one from junior Camden DeMaio, to bring the score to 13-11. Findlay tallied one more goal at the 4:49 mark to go up by three, as neither team could get anything going in the last few minutes, causing Frostburg to fall by a final score of 14-11.
Haney led the way for the Bobcats finishing with a total of five goals, one assist, and six points on the day. Kearney tallied two goals and one assist, finishing with three points. Both sophomore Nicole Gray and junior Whitney Crosby saw time in the goal, as Gray finished with six saves and Crosby finished with three.
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 1-3 on the season and Findlay goes to 1-5. FSU will stay on the road to face Shepherd on Saturday, March 18 for a game time of 2 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
