BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team started conference play with a bang on Wednesday afternoon, defeating West Virginia Wesleyan 26-2 on the road.

FSU saw their first shot of the day saved, but after a turnover was picked up by freshman Julia Mangini, sophomore Krissy Milburn raced down the field for the opening goal of the game. Frostburg peppered WVWC's cage with shots, finally being rewarded when sophomore Kerri Hayes caused a turnover, picked up the groundball, and scored for a 2-0 lead. At the midway point in the quarter, FSU picked up the pace, scoring six goals in quick succession without losing a draw control.

Junior Anna Kearney started things with a free position goal, followed by freshman Neila Haney, junior Camden DeMaio, Haney scoring her second, senior Maura O'Neill, and freshman Dahlia Trippel going full circle with a free position success of her own. Haney and DeMaio went back-to-back, with the latter assisting the former on her goal, then senior Lilly Stephens capitalized on a man-up opportunity at the end of the period for a commanding 11-0 Frostburg lead.

Stephens then turned provider for sophomore Brittyn Leonard to open the second, then the latter scored a solo goal just a couple minutes later. FSU then got goals on three consecutive possessions, with senior Cammie Schniedwind scoring one and setting up sophomore Natalie Williams for her first collegiate goal that grew the lead to 16-0. Just after that score, Wesleyan forced sophomore goalkeeper Nicole Gray into her first action of the day, making the save to keep the shutout going into halftime.

The shutout bid did not last long at the start of the third quarter, as WVWC immediately took the first draw control to their offensive end and scored on a free position. Frostburg responded immediately, with Schniedwind and senior Jordan Kenney going back-to-back to push the advantage to 18-1. Trippel knotted her second free position goal of the day before O'Neill grabbed the resulting draw control that led to freshman Emily Lamoreaux finding the back of the net for Frostburg's 20
th goal of the game. Each side traded possessions, with sophomore Grace Dickey in goal for the quarter making back-to-back saves before finally getting beaten on the last shot of the quarter to end three periods of play at 20-2.

Freshman Daniella Boss opened the fourth with a quick goal off a Kearney assist, followed shortly by Haney scoring her fourth of the game. Junior Whitney Crosby saved the only shot of the quarter she faced, followed by Stephens, Leonard, and sophomore Julia Badolato scoring on consecutive offensive trips. Leonard ended the contest with a free position goal for FSU's final goal and the 26-2 victory.

Haney and Leonard both tallied four goals on the day, as DeMaio and Schniedwind both finished with a pair of goals and assists apiece. Trippel, Haney, and Hayes combined for 15 draw controls, with the latter also joining DeMaio in picking up a team-high three groundballs. The 26 goals scored are the most for the team since putting up 29 on Wesleyan in April of 2021.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 2-6 overall, while WVWC falls to 0-8. FSU returns to action on Sunday, April 2 for another road match, this time against Alderson Broaddus at 6 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
