PHILIPPI, W. Va. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team picked up another MEC win over Alderson Broaddus, hitting the 20-goal mark for the second straight game with a 20-3 win.
The Battlers took the opening draw straight down the field and put a shot on goal that was saved by sophomore Nicole Gray. The Bobcats quickly countered and went up 1-0 on a goal from junior Camden DeMaio. FSU would strike again when junior Anna Kearney scored a man-up goal that was assisted by sophomore Julia Badolato. Just over a minute later, Kearney struck again, making it 3-0 Bobcats. Frostburg would quickly score again, with goals coming from freshman Neila Haney and DeMaio converting on a free position, but AB scored the final goal of the quarter, making the score 5-1 at the end of one.
The second quarter would be the most productive for FSU, adding nine total goals in the frame. The opening goal would be the third for Kearney, making things 6-1. Freshman Daniella Boss scored in her second straight game with the next goal, followed by Haney tallying either side of Badolato, pushing the Bobcat lead to 10-1. Seniors Cammie Schniedwind and Maura O'Neill would score the next two goals, respectively to make it 12-1, with the Battlers adding their only goal of the quarter to make it 12-2. Schniedwind would end the second strong with an assist on another Kearney goal and then a goal of her own to make things 14-2 going into the half.
With a running clock, FSU wouldn't get on the board until the 10th minute of the third, when senior Lilly Stephens found the back of the net. AB would answer with a goal of their own at 15-3, with Frostburg scoring the last goal of the frame with another DeMaio free position shot, ending the quarter with a 16-3 lead.
In the fourth, freshman Sydney Stone would score her first career Frostburg goal on a Haney find, then the pair reversed roles on the Bobcats' 18
th goal of the game. Stone picked up her third point, assisting on the next goal from freshman Emily Lamoraux. The final goal of the game came from Haney for her fifth, giving FSU a 20-3 win.
The Bobcats were led by Haney and Kearney accounting for 13 of the team's 31 points and nine of the 20 goals. Frostburg was perfect on clears for the day and only turned the ball over six times.
With the win, FSU improves to 3-6 overall, while Alderson Broaddus falls to 0-4. The Bobcats next host Notre Dame of Ohio on Wednesday, April 5 for a 6 PM start. For more information please visit frostburgsports.com
