FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Basketball advanced in its first round MEC Tournament matchup and will now face No. 1 seed Glenville State on Thursday at WesBanco Arena.

How They Got Here
The Bobcats enter the game as the No. 9 seed in the conference, sporting a 9-20 overall record with an MEC regular season record of 6-16. In the first round against Davis & Elkins, FSU pulled off a fourth quarter comeback to secure a 70-64 victory, their first-ever MEC tournament win. Â

GSU won its second consecutive MEC regular season championship with a 26-2 record, including a 20-2 record in the conference. They come into the contest riding an 11-game win streak, having not lost a game January 18. By receiving the one seed in the conference, the Pioneers earned a first round bye straight into the quarterfinals.

The Matchup
Glenville has won each game in the series, dating back to 2019, with a 7-0 record. This season saw the Pioneers win at home 103-75 and on the road 90-74.

The Players
Frostburg boasts one of the top players not just in the MEC, but in all of Division II, as freshman forward Emilee Weakley leads the country in scoring at 25.5 points per game, while also averaging a double-double at 10.3 rebounds per game. Earlier this week she was named the conference's Freshman of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MEC First Team. Joining her in double figure scoring is senior guard Maggie Sharp at 10.8 points per game, known for her outside scoring, as her 64 three-point makes lead the team and is the eighth-most in the MEC. Senior forward Arianna Briggs-Hall provides more size on the interior, averaging 9.6 points and 8.0 rebounds, while also supplying offense as the team's leader in assists with 59 on the year.

GSU features the MEC Player of the Year in Breanna Campbell, who led the team in scoring (17.2), rebounding (5.6), and assists (119). Her 4.3 assists per game are second in the conference, while she is also fourth in the conference at 59 steals. Joining her as an All-MEC First Team selection was Mickayla Perdue, also averaging 17.2 points per game, while leading the team in three-point makes (86), which is second in the MEC. Hya Haywood is one of the top defensive players in the MEC, as she leads the team with 61 steals, which is tied for third in the conference, helping her to earn Honorable Mention All-MEC. Â

The Rest of the Field
Seven-seed Concord defeated ten-seed Notre Dame (Ohio) in Wednesday's other first round game, where the Mountain Lions will now take on second-seeded West Virginia State. The matchups that had already been set for the quarterfinals will feature No. 3 Charleston (WV) against No. 6 Wheeling and No. 4 Fairmont State versus No. 5 West Liberty.
