ATHENS, W.Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball team traveled to take on the Concord Mountain Lions on Wednesday night, losing 81-60.
Senior Agyei Edwards opened the game for the Bobcats by making his way to the basket for a layup, followed by junior Sean Brown Jr. showing off his range from beyond the arc to give the Bobcats a six-point lead. Midway through the half, Edwards would knock down a beautiful three point shot to keep Frostburg in the lead with a score of 18-17. Graduate Vincent Smalls battled his way to the basket, laying the ball in for his sixth point of the evening, but the Bobcats struggled to keep their offensive rhythm going as the half went on. Senior Jaylon Johnson closed out the period for FSU with a pull-up jumper, but the Mountain Lions had found their offense after a slow start to take a 40-28 lead into the break.
Senior Jamil Jones would look to get the Frostburg offense going early on in the second half, grabbing a steal and taking it the other way, slamming down a dunk. Junior Jason Murphy knocked down a routine jump shot to bring his total on the evening to nine points, as the score would sit at 44-34 Concord just two minutes into the second half. Both teams would go back and forth for over three minutes with no baskets, exchanging missed shots at both ends. Graduate Juston Bailey broke the streak for the Bobcats, driving to the basket and past the CU defense for a tough layup. Murphy knocked down a jumper looking to cut down the Concord lead, giving him 11 points on the night.
A couple minutes later, Murphy knocked down two jump shots for FSU, capitalizing on a three-point opportunity and adding five more points to his game. Concord would still hold the lead more than halfway through the second half with a score of 64-48, as Edwards would continue to fight until the very end, knocking down a three-pointer from beyond the arc. The offense never recovered, unfortunately, as the Mountain Lions ended up with the final 81-60 scoreline to take the win.
Murphy finished the game with another double-double on the season, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Edwards would follow dropping 13 points and grabbing five boards.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 6-15 on the year while the Mountain Lions move to 11-9.
