WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Wrestling team traveled to West Virginia on Sunday to take on three ranked opponents in No. 2 West Liberty, No. 11 Millersville, and Division III No. 13 Ohio Northern.

In the first meet against ONU, the teams traded wins in the first four weights, both getting a tech fall and a pinfall for an 11-11 tie. Junior Thierno Diallo won 17-2 at 133 lbs, while freshman Gage Heilbrun pinned his opponent less than a minute into the second round at 149 lbs. From that point, the Polar Bears took over, winning each of the next five matches on their way to a 21-point lead. Junior William Longhurst ended things on a positive for FSU at 285 lbs, earning a pinfall just before the second period ended for the final 32-17 score.

Against the second-ranked Hilltoppers, the Bobcats kept pace through the first four weights, up to an 8-8 draw. Diallo and Heilbrun again picked up victories, the former a narrow 8-7 decision and the latter a dominant 17-0 tech fall that evened up the match score. After Frostburg had to forfeit at 157 lbs, WLU showcased their power in the final five weights, picking up four pins and a major decision on their way to a 42-8 victory. Â

As was the case in the opening two matchups, Diallo and Heilbrun continued to score points for FSU against No. 11 Millersville. Diallo got a 17-1 tech fall for five points, while Heilbrun earned a 6-1 decision with the match score standing at 9-8 Marauders. MU scored wins in the next four weights, putting them up by 20 points and securing the match victory. The Bobcats didn't give in, as freshman William Applegarth earned the team's final win of the day, getting a last-second pinfall to put the final score at 34-14.

Additionally, there were several exhibition matches throughout the meet, with a couple Bobcats picking up wins. Freshman Joel Hopkins won by pinfall at 197 lbs, while fellow freshman Mark Matysek did the same at 165 lbs.
