Field Hockey Scores Most Goals Since Joining Division II in Commanding Win

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State field hockey team had a late night contest against Lincoln Memorial, where the Bobcats would run away 9-0 winners.

In the first period, LMU started out the quicker of the two teams, as they had an early chance to score that was thwarted by senior goalkeeper Madison Manalanson. Frostburg found their energy a couple minutes later, as junior Ava Schmidt scored her first goal of the season. FSU continued their pressure and were rewarded just minutes later, as junior Emilie Bonhivert found the back of the net after her first attempt was saved. With time winding down in the quarter, the Bobcats were awarded a last-second penalty corner, from which junior Zoe Reading was able to score her first goal of the year for a commanding 3-0 lead.

In the second period, Frostburg had several chances to score a fourth, but Railsplitter keeper Ana Carney was resolute in goal through the first five minutes with five saves. FSU finally broke through on a score by sophomore Femke Hofkamp, followed up just three minutes later with another goal, this one from sophomore Ava Waddell. Carney continued to thwart several Bobcat attacks, keeping the score at 5-0 going into the half.

In the third period, Frostburg stayed in the driver's seat, as Schmidt scored her second of the game on a rebound from Hofkamp's rocket shot. Carney and the LMU defense made a couple impressive saves at the end of the quarter to go into the fourth with the score at 6-0.

FSU didn't let up in the fourth quarter, forcing Carney into five saves within six minutes. Senior Rachael Rallo took command of the offense midway through the period, scoring a pair of goals just a few minutes apart from one another, with fellow senior Kaleigh Cordrey putting the final goal in with just under a minute remaining for the final 9-0 scoreline.

The Bobcats featured a total of seven different scorers, as the nine goals scored are most for the program at the Division II level. It also is the most goals scored in a single game since 2016 in an 11-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.). The team's three wins are already the most in a season since 2017, as it also was the team's third shutout, the most in a season since 2016.

With the win, Frostburg rises to 3-1, while the Railsplitters fall to 0-1 on the season. The Bobcats will be on the road for their next contest against fifth-ranked Kutztown on Saturday, September 10 at 6 p.m. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
