Field Hockey Defeated in Road Game by #5 Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Frostburg State field hockey team traveled to No. 5-ranked Kutztown in a 4-1 loss on Saturday evening.

In the first period, the Golden Bears would get out to a quick start with a goal inside a minute and a half, thought he Bobcats were able to lock in defensively and hold KU to a pair of blocked shots the rest of the quarter.

Kutztown ramped up the pressure in the second quarter, hitting the post and forcing senior keeper Madison Manalanson into a fine save in the first seven minutes. On the 11 minute mark in the period, the Golden Bears got their breakthrough goal to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the half, KU maintained their possession and shot attempts, eventually getting another goal on the board with five minutes left in the third, despite Manalanson's best efforts in goal.

In the fourth period, the Golden Bears put in a fourth just after a defensive save from junior Maddie Wallis for a 4-0 lead. Frostburg got off their first shot of the game from junior Zoe Reading, but her effort was saved three and a half minutes into the quarter. Manalanson then made back-to-back saves, setting the stage for Reading to score off a feed from sophomore Femke Hofkamp to take the final score to 4-1.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 3-2 while the Golden Bears rise to 3-0 on the season. Frostburg will back in action at home on Saturday, September 17 at 1 PM to take on Mercyhurst. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
