Women's Soccer Wins Third Straight in Dominant Home Debut

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team continued their undefeated start to the year with a comfortable 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus at Bobcat Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

FSU started on the front foot, creating several chances but being unable to find a breakthrough. Junior Toni Fiocco-Mizer ended that with a stunner from 20 yards out, crashing a shot on the underside of the crossbar for a 1-0 with 17:41 on the clock for her third goal of the season.

The Bobcats continued to pester AB's goal, with juniors Lela Clark and Dez Mortimer both seeing their efforts saved. Frostburg's defense kept the Battler offense at bay, holding them without a shot in the half as FSU continued to create chances but couldn't push the lead any further before halftime.

Frostburg continued their dominance at the start of the second half, as Fiocco-Mizer cannoned a shot off the crossbar and junior Hannah Thompson saw her indirect free kick effort saved. The Battlers finally got their first shot of the game with five minutes gone in the half, but the angle was favorable to junior Ashley Bilger, who made the easy save.

The Bobcats kicked into another gear offensively, forcing AB keeper Olivia Kqira into a string of saves, but still were just unable to find the second goal. Sophomore Cat Smith came closest with a rocket free kick that crashed off the bar. Sophomore Keely Knotts finally was able to break the scoring drought, whipping in a stunner from the corner of the 18 into the far post for her first goal of the year.

Sophomore Mackenzie Alonso was able to get off several shots of her own in search of a third, but she had to settle for a breakaway assist into sophomore Madi Allen to score her first collegiate goal with some nice footwork in the middle of the box before finishing with her left foot.

Freshman Morgan Mrizek came off the bench with the result in hand but was hungry for a goal of her own, as she fired off four shots towards the end of regulation, coming closest on a shot off the left post but unable to find the back of the net, ending the game at 3-0.

FSU outshot the Battlers 38-4, in a convincing display, which included the team's third consecutive shutout of the season.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 3-0 on the year, while AB falls to 0-1-1. The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, September 10, where they are back at Bobcat Stadium to face Wheeling at 5 p.m. Information and updates will be posted at frostburgsports.com.
