FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team defeated Alderson Broaddus under the lights of Bobcat Stadium by a score of 4-0.
The evening matchup between the Bobcats and the Battlers saw each team searching for an edge through the first 37 minutes of the game. FSU earned a free kick just over midfield that set up the first goal of the game. On a long ball from junior Andre Tenorio, freshman Carlos Quintero Rivas headed it towards goal that found the feet of freshman Danny Caparotti. He finished the ball on his left foot in the bottom right corner of the goal past the keepers' outstretched arms. The Battlers had a chance of their own off a late free kick where sophomore goalkeeper Brennan Moore secured the save to keep a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
In the second half, the Bobcats fended off two early corners from AB. The Bobcats had another set piece chance when junior Alex Retzos had a shot pushed wide by the Battler keeper. Just after that, Alex Grasso set up a corner on a nice run, from which Retzos served in a low sharp ball that found its way to Quintero Rivas for the second Bobcat goal on the night. Three minutes later with momentum on their side, FSU added another insurance goal. Freshman Kevin Garcia-Torres played a long ball through the middle to recently subbed in freshman Black Hoskins who blasted a shot passed the keeper. Moore made a big save on a free kick from the Battlers, deflecting the shot up off the crossbar to keep the game at 3-0.
Frostburg continued their pressure, as several good chances were saved. The Bobcat win was capped off with a second goal from Hoskins after stealing the ball and corking a shot into the corner making the final score 4-0 in favor of FSU.
