BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Frostburg State field hockey team went on the road to face Bloomsburg in a 2-0 loss late Saturday morning.
FSU started out the better of the two teams, as sophomore Femke Hofkamp and freshman Paige Leitzel both got up the field and created chances, but their efforts were saved to keep the game scoreless. BU quickly responded with seven minutes remaining, scoring twice just 40 seconds apart to take a swift 2-0 lead. Hofkamp was able to get another attempt off with three and a half minutes remaining, but this one was wide to go into the second quarter at the same scoreline.Â
The Huskies came out strong to start the second, as senior Madison Manalansan was forced into a couple early saves, though her and the defense remained resolute to limit any further damage. Junior Emilie Bonhivert then took over the Bobcat offense, firing off three shots on target, but each of her efforts were saved, along with another attempt by Leitzel as Frostburg couldn't find their breakthrough goal before halftime.Â
The third period was a heavily defensive battle, as Manalansan made an early save and Bonhivert shot wide for the only real chances in the entire quarter, keeping things at 2-0 going to the fourth.Â
Frostburg turned up the pressure in the final quarter, as Bonhivert, Hofkamp, and Leitzel all peppered the Huskies' goal, but none were able to get a score, resulting in the final 2-0 BU victory.Â
Both sides had 13 shots in the game, with FSU holding a narrow 9-8 advantage in shots on goal.Â
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 4-3 while the Huskies rise to 4-3 on the season. The Bobcats will be back in action on Tuesday, September 27 for a 7 PM contest at home against Indiana (Pa.). For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
