Women's Lacrosse Features 13 Different Scorers in Win Over WVWC

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. - The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team traveled to take on West Virginia Wesleyan, where they won their seventh straight contest, 19-4.

In the first quarter, Frostburg would strike first with a goal from junior Lilly Stephens. After a draw control win from graduate Stephanie King, freshman Krissy Milburn would extend the FSU lead, followed by King scoring three straight goals to bring the lead to 5-0 with just under six minutes remaining. After a draw control win from freshman Megan Keller, Stephens would pick up her 30th goal of the season, followed by a trio of freshmen in Kerri Hayes, Brittyn Leonard, and Julia Badolato to go into the second quarter with a 9-0 lead.

In the second quarter, WVWC would get their first goal of the game to stop the goal streak, but Frostburg would answer back with a goal from Milburn. Junior Maura O'Neill would score off a free position shot, then sophomore Anna Kearney got herself a goal to further extend the lead to 12-1. Badolato scored the last goal of the quarter to put the game at 13-1 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Frostburg offense started off strong again with a goal from Badolato. With the game in hand, FSU sent the defense forward to try and get some goals, which paid off when senior defenders Mackenzie Cramer and Emily Chick added to the score sheet, with Chick's being her first collegiate goal. Senior Lucy Baukhages would get the last goal of the quarter with thirty seconds left, giving the Bobcats a commanding 17-1 lead.

In the fourth quarter, WVWC would get their second score of the game, though senior Bridget Weiss responded with her first goal of the season. Wesleyan scored twice more, but FSU would get the last goal of the game from senior Emma Neff, also her first goal of the season, to seal the victory 19-4.

Stephens led the scoring with four points on a pair of goals and assists, while King, Milburn, Badolato, and Leonard all had three points apiece. Milburn and Kearney also had two caused turnovers each and combined for five groundballs. 

With the win, Frostburg rises to 8-6 while WVWC falls to 3-11 on the season. FSU will be back in action at home on Saturday, April 30 at 4 PM where they will celebrate senior day against Davis & Elkins. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
