FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team took on Davis & Elkins in a dominating 22-4 win on senior day.
Prior to the game, the Bobcats honored three Senator seniors who are rounding out their careers, then turned to celebrate the final seasons for Emma Neff, Mackenzie Cramer, Bridget Weiss, Chloee Johnson, Shelby Brunett, Emily Chick, Kelly Claxton, Paige Bittner, and Lucy Baukhages.Â
In the first quarter, FSU would get off to a strong start with Bittner scoring her first goal of the season, followed by a goal from graduate Stephanie King. After a draw control win from graduate Lindsay Kohlmann, junior Lilly Stephens would add a goal, then Kohlmann would score on a man-up opportunity, as the senior-laden defense would keep the Senators scoreless to take a 4-0 lead into the second.
In the second quarter, Frostburg would continue their goal streak with two goals from Stephens and another from King. The Bobcat defense took their scoreless mark into the offensive third, as freshman Delaney Devers scored her first collegiate goal. Another draw control win from Kohlmann would allow sophomore Anna Kearney to add a goal to her column, though the Senators would get the last goal of the half to bring the score to 9-1.
In the third quarter, The Bobcats would waste no time getting the scoring started with King and Stephens both getting back-to-back goals. Freshman Julia Badolato would get a goal off an assist from Baukhages to further the lead. Stephens and King then scored a pair of milestone goals, with Stephens' being her 100th career point, and King getting her 150th career goal. A caused turnover from junior Jordan Kenney would allow freshman Sarah Allgaier to get a goal, as once again defense would keep D&E scoreless in the quarter and take a 17-1 lead into the final period.
In the fourth quarter, the Senators would break the FSU goal streak for their second score of the game. Frostburg answered right back with a goal from Baukhages, though Davis & Elkins immediately scored two straight goals to bring the score to 18-4. The Bobcats were able to end the game on a high note with a pair of goals from sophomore Erin Bryce and two more scores from Kearney and Allgaier, coming away with the victory 22-4.
Stephens and King continued their stellar season with 11 combined goals, while Baukhages had a game-high two assists. Devers, Cramer, and Kohlmann led the defensive effort with seven combined caused turnovers, as King was effective in pressing the Senator defense with four CT's herself.Â
With the win, the Bobcats rise to 9-6 while D&E falls to 5-10 at the end of the regular season. Frostburg will be back in action on Thursday, May 5 where they will face Charleston (WV) in the semifinals at the Mountain East Conference tournament, with game time scheduled for 5 p.m. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
