FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team took on D'Youville in their first-ever matchup, winning their sixth straight game 20-3, as the game was played with a running clock after the two teams agreed upon the change.
In the first quarter, the Bobcats got off to a quick start with two goals from senior Jake Bowman. After a faceoff win from freshman Alex Walstrum, senior Gavin Schattall would get a goal, then junior Bubba Love would extend the lead to 4-0 within six minutes. Shortly after, Schattall would add another goal to his column, with sophomore Austin Sipes, Love and Schattall once more scoring to take an 8-0 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats would get off to another quick start with a goal from junior Chase Buckwalter. Shortly after, junior Owen McCallum would add a goal to push the lead to double digits. The Saints would score their first of the game with just over 10 minutes remaining, but FSU would answer back with a goal from Bowman and another from senior Matt Ward to go ahead 12-1. DYC took advantage of a man-up opportunity, scoring the last goal of the quarter to go into halftime with a 12-2 Frostburg lead.
In the third quarter, sophomore Tyler Dooley would open the scoring for the Bobcats, with Bowman adding another goal and junior Evan Dere winning his faceoff, then racing down the field to score his first of the game. Shortly after, freshman Blaine Karotko would add to the lead, with senior Nicholas Nordhausen tacking on another goal to go into the fourth with a commanding 17-2 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Nordhausen would add another goal, followed by freshman Drew Mullineaux scoring his first goal of the season. Shortly after, senior Connor Tollus would also get his first goal of the season, though D'Youville would score the final goal of the game, as FSU walked away with the victory, 20-3.
Bowman led the offense with five points on four goals and an assist, with Love and Nordhausen both contributing four points on a pair of goals and assists. Freshmen Dylan Zimmerman and Gunner Settar both led the defense with five combined caused turnovers and another five groundballs. Walstrum and senior Cade Price both continued their dominance in the faceoff circle, going a combined 18-23 with 12 groundballs.
With the win, the Bobcats rise to 10-6 while the Saints fall to 0-10 on the year. Frostburg will be back in action at home on Saturday, April 30 at 1 PM where they will take on No. 4 Mercy, as it will also be senior day. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
