Women's Lacrosse Returns to MEC Play with Win Over Golden Eagles

CHARLESTON, W. Va. - The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team defeated Charleston (WV) in a dominating 19-7 win in their first conference action since last Saturday after a mid-week non-conference win.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats would strike first with a goal from freshman Kerri Hayes, as the Golden Eagles answered right back to tie the game. Graduate Lindsay Kohlmann got the lead back for FSU, with Hayes then getting her second goal of the game. Sophomore Anna Kearney would get a goal, shortly followed by a goal from graduate Stephanie King to go into the second with a 5-1 lead.

In the second quarter, Frostburg would waste no time continuing the goal streak with a score from freshman Julia Badolato. Shortly after, junior Maura O'Neill would score off a free-position shot to push the lead to 7-1. Freshman Krissy Milburn would get herself a goal to get the goal streak to eight, as UCWV finally scored back-to-back goals to break the streak with the score at 8-3. Kearney responded with a goal, followed by Badolato and Milburn tacking on two more to bring the Bobcat lead to 11-3 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Frostburg would strike first with a goal from King. Shortly after, with Hayes then scoring two straight. Milburn scored once more, then junior Lilly Stephens would get herself onto the score sheet. A caused turnover from senior Chloee Johnson would allow O'Neill would add another goal to her column. Junior Jordan Kenney kept the goals coming, scoring FSU's ninth straight to go into the third in the lead 17-3.

In the fourth quarter, freshman Natalie Crawford would get her first goal of the season to further extend the Bobcat lead. The Golden Eagles had their best play of the game, going on a four-goal streak to get the score to 18-7 with a minute left, but Milburn tallied the final score, sealing the victory for Frostburg at 19-7.

Milburn led all scorers with four goals, with Hayes adding three goals and an assist and King tallying four points on a pair of goals and assists.

With the win, the Bobcats rise to 8-6 while the Golden Eagles fall to 5-7 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on the road on Wednesday, April 27 at 3:30 PM where they will take on West Virginia Wesleyan. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
