Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Marks Love Strong Game with Double-Digit Win

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team took on Saint Thomas Aquinas at home in dominating fashion with a 19-4 victory. The game was played as a part of the Love Strong 51 Foundation, which raises awareness and funds for testicular cancer research in honor of FSU alum and testicular cancer survivor Spenser Love.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats would get the scoring started early with a goal from sophomore Austin Sipes. Shortly after, redshirt-junior Tanner Donaldson scored, followed by goals from senior Matt Ward and junior Chase Buckwalter for an early four-goal lead. Both teams traded chances throughout the quarter, as the Spartans would get the last goal with just over a minute left, with FSU going into the second in the lead 4-1.

In the second quarter, the Bobcats would waste no time with a goal from senior Gavin Schattall within 30 seconds. After a save from senior goalkeeper Kevin Reuther, junior Justin Hulse would add his name to the score sheet, extending the lead to 6-1. A nice assist from senior Jake Bowman would allow junior Bubba Love to score, though the Spartans would score just a minute later. Frostburg answered right back with another goal from Ward, then Bowman would get himself a goal going into halftime with the Bobcats in the lead 9-2.

In the third quarter, the Bobcats would again waste no time scoring on a goal from Ward with less than 30 seconds gone, followed by another goal from Love. After a caused turnover from freshman Landon Bruce, freshman Seamus Kearney ran forward from defense and passed to Schattall who scored the goal of the game behind his back off the feed. The Spartans would get a goal to bring the score to 12-3, as FSU began a game-ending scoring run. Senior Jake Sprecher started the streak with his first career goal from defense, with Bowman following on a man-up opportunity. After a nice save from Reuther, junior Austin Linn would score to extend the lead to 15-3. A faceoff win by junior Evan Dere would allow senior Nicholas Nordhausen to score, with Ward getting the last goal of the quarter on a man-up opportunity to keep the lead at 17-3 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth, Frostburg again would strike first with sophomore Parker Masters getting his first goal of the season. STAC finally broke FSU's six-goal streak with just over four minutes remaining, though the Bobcats got the final goal of the game from freshman Blaine Karotko to seal victory 19-4.

Ward would end the day with a game-high four goals, as he tied Bowman for the lead in points as each had five. Bruce led the defense with four caused turnovers, while Reuther made six saves and allowed only three goals to earn his eighth win of the year.
