ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.- The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team traveled to take on Molloy in an East Coast Conference victory, winning 14-6.
In the first quarter, the Lions would start off strong with a three-goal lead, but after a great faceoff win from freshman Alex Walstrum, senior Gavin Schattall would get a goal to start off the scoring for the Bobcats. After another faceoff win from Walstrum, Schattall would get another goal to make it a one-goal game. Senior Jake Bowman would complete the early comeback, scoring the last goal of the quarter and tying the game 3-3 going into the second.
In the second quarter, FSU would get the scoring started with a great goal from redshirt-junior Tanner Donaldson to take the lead. Shortly after, senior Matt Ward would add another goal for the Bobcats, as junior Owen McCallum would further extend the lead 6-3. Another faceoff win from Walstrum would allow Ward to score on a man-up opportunity, followed by a goal from junior Austin Linn to make it eight straight Frostburg goals, as they led 8-3 going into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Bobcats would continue their goal streak with a nice goal from junior Bubba Love, then Schattall got his hat trick to extend the lead to 10-3, completing the 10-goal run. The Lions would break the goal streak for the Bobcats with their first goal in almost 25 miuntes of game time, but FSU would answer right back with another goal from Schattall. Shortly after, Donaldson would get another goal to put Frostburg in an eight-goal lead, though Molloy would add another goal to get back within seven. McCallum would get the last goal of the quarter and keep the Bobcats in the lead 13-5 going into the fourth.
In the fourth quarter, both teams would struggle for offense, as senior Kevin Reuther would make some great saves in net to allow Love to score first for the Bobcats. The Lions would get the last goal of the game, but FSU would take the victory 14-6.
Schattall would end the night with four goals and Reuther made 10 saves on five goals allowed for his fifth win of the year. Walstrum had a career-high in face-off wins with 14 out of 17.Â
With the win, the Bobcats will rise to 5-6 while the Lions will fall to 5-9 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on the road to take on Davis & Elkins for the ECC-GMAC Challenge Cup on Tuesday, April 19 at 6 PM. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
