Women's Lacrosse Secures Third Straight Win Over Senators

ELKINS, W. Va.- The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team traveled to take on Davis & Elkins in a dominating 19-6 win, their third victory in a row.

In the first quarter, the Bobcats would get off to a strong start with graduate Stephanie King getting the first goal. The Senators would score to even things, but FSU answered right back with a nice goal from graduate Lindsay Kohlmann. After a turnover from D&E, freshman Brittyn Leonard would add another goal for Frostburg. The Senators would score with two seconds left in the quarter, but the Bobcats still held the lead 3-2.

In the second quarter, King would get FSU off to a hot start with a goal from a free-position shot. Shortly after, junior Lilly Stephens would get herself a goal off a free position. The Senators would get a goal back, but the Bobcats would retain their three-goal lead with a free-position shot from sophomore Anna Kearney. D&E scored again, but once more Frostburg would answer back quickly with a nice goal from Stephens, who made it back-to-back goals off a free-position. FSU would then get four straight goals to further extend their lead, with the scoring coming from junior Maura O'Neill, Kohlmann, and two great goals from sophomore Erin Bryce. D&E would add another goal to break the streak, but the Bobcats would get the final goal of the half with a goal from Leonard to make it a 13-5 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Frostburg would get off to a strong start with a nice goal from Kearney. Junior Jordan Kenney then got onto the scoresheet, with a great draw control win from Kearney allowing her to score again, further extending the Bobcat lead. The Senators would get their last goal of the game with 8:05 left in the third, with Stephens scoring another pair of goals to go into the fourth up 18-6.

In the fourth quarter, both teams' goalkeepers played outstanding, with FSU denied on seven occasions and sophomore McKenna Shay coming off the bench and shutting out the Senators to the tune of five saves. The Bobcats would get the last goal of the game from Kearney for a 19-6 victory.

Stephens and Kearney were the leading scorers on the day, with five and four goals, respectively, while Kohlmann had a game-high seven points on a pair of goals and five assists.

With the win, the Bobcats rise to 4-6 while the Senators fall to 4-7 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action at Bobcat Stadium on Saturday, April 16 at 4 PM for a rematch with Notre Dame (Ohio), where FSU will hope to avenge a road loss earlier this season.
