FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team faced off against No.20 Seton Hill (Pa.) for the second time this season in a narrow 18-15 home loss.
In the first quarter, the Bobcats would get off to a strong start with a goal from senior Joey Boros. The Griffins would get a goal back, but FSU quickly responded with a goal from freshman Seamus Kearney. SHU scored once more, but Frostburg regained the lead on a goal from senior Jake Bowman. After a great save from senior goalkeeper Kevin Reuther, junior Bubba Love would get a goal to extend the Bobcat lead. Junior Owen McCallum would get the last goal of the quarter, extending the Frostburg lead to 5-2 going into the second.
In the second quarter, the Bobcats would score early with a nice goal from junior Chase Buckwalter. The Griffins broke the FSU run with a goal, but the Bobcats would answer right back with a goal from senior Ty Oehlerking. Seton Hill stayed int he game with another goal, but Kearney scored his second of the game to maintain a four-goal lead. The Griffins would then take control, getting three straight goals to get things close going into halftime, with Frostburg narrowly ahead 8-7.
In the third quarter, SHU would get the first goal of the half to tie the game, but Buckwalter would score a nice goal to regain the lead. The Griffins score again in a back-and-forth affair, with FSU getting a fast-break goal from junior Evan Dere. Seton Hill would then score three straight to take a 12-10 lead, with senior Gavin Schattall breaking the streak with a goal to get within one. Buckwalter would add another goal to his column to tie the game, but the Griffins would score the last goal of the quarter to take the lead 13-12.
In the fourth quarter, the Bobcats would quickly tie the game with a nice goal from senior Matthew Ward on a man-up opportunity. SHU would score right after, but Frostburg responded with a goal from Schattall. The Griffins would go on a three-goal streak to further extend their lead, with McCallum keeping FSU within two, but Seton Hill would score the last goal of the game, sealing an 18-15 victory.
Buckwalter led the offense with a career-high three goals, while Kearney had a fine all-round day with two goals, two caused turnovers, and four groundballs.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 4-6 while the Griffins rise to 8-5 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on the road on Saturday, April 16 at 12 PM, where they will face Molloy in an ECC matchup. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
