King Scores 8 Goals, Surpasses 200 Career Points in Women's Lacrosse Win

FROSTBURG, Md.- The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team took on the University of Charleston (W.V.) in a dominant 24-11 victory for the Bobcats.

In the first quarter, FSU start off strong with a quick goal from freshman Julia Badolato, then a goal from graduate Stephanie King and another from Badolato for a quick 3-0 lead. Junior Lilly Stephens joined in on the scoring, followed by a goal from freshman Megan Keller and one more from graduate Lindsay Kohlmann to cap the six goal run with just under four minutes remaining. The Golden Eagles responded with back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 6-2, but King would add another goal off a free position to end the first quarter with Frostburg in the lead 7-2.

In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles would start off with two quick goals to get within three, but a draw control win from Kohlmann allowed freshman Kerri Hayes to get a goal back for the Bobcats. After a great save from freshman Nicole Gray, King would add yet another goal to extend the lead for the Bobcats. Charleston would score once more, but FSU answered right back with two great goals from King within a minute of each other to stay ahead 11-6. UCWV stuck around with another goal to stay within four, but goals from Hayes and King in the final two minutes have Frostburg a 13-7 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, sophomore Anna Kearney would get the scoring started for FSU, with King also adding another goal to her column to go up 15-7. The Golden Eagles responded with a goal, but Kearney was there to retain the eight-goal lead. The Bobcats pushed the lead to double digits with back-to-back goals from Badolato pushing the score to 18-8. Charleston was able to stop the bleeding with two straight goals, but right after King scored the highlight goal of the game with a behind-the-back shot off a feed from freshman Krissy Milburn. The Golden Eagles would get the last goal of the quarter, but the Bobcats still led 19-11 going into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, FSU would open with four quick goals, with two coming from Kearney and two coming from Hayes for a 23-11 lead. Sophomore Erin Bryce would get herself a goal to further extend the Bobcat lead, and  Gray would make some amazing saves down the stretch to keep UCWV scoreless in the quarter and clinch victory for the Bobcats, 24-11.

King's eight goals are tied for the second-most scored in a single game in program history, while her 10 points put her at 200 total for her stellar career. Kearney, Hayes, and Badolato each had four goals apiece, while Kohlmann was outstanding on the draw controls with 15, a new career mark and one of the top marks in program history. Gray was spectacular in net, making a career-high 17 saves to earn her second win of the year.

With the win, the Bobcats rise to 3-6 while the Golden Eagles fall to 3-6 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on the road to face the Senators of Davis & Elkins on Wednesday, April 13 at 5 PM. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
