CARY, N.C.- The Frostburg State Baseball team dropped their second game of their Saturday doubleheader to No. 22-ranked West Chester 9-4.
The Golden Rams jumped on junior starter Ethan Kiple in the first two innings for an early 4-0 lead.
The Frostburg bats heated up in the top of the third, as freshman Danny Estrada led off the inning with a ground rule double to dead center to put a runner in scoring position. Senior Bryce Jackson stepped up to the plate and stung a ball to center field to drive home the first Bobcat run of the game. After an infield single by junior Trevor Jones, junior Jack Maruskin doubled to the wall in right and drove in both Jackson and Jones to cut the lead to 4-3. A walk to sophomore Chase O'Dell and a fielders choice from freshman Jacob Stretch put runners on the corners for Frostburg. Head Coach Anthony Williams worked his magic as he called a trick play to get Stretch in a rundown between first and second, allowing Maruskin to score and tie it up at 4-4.
The Golden Rams responded with five unanswered runs on some smart small ball and limited FSU to just two more hits the rest of the way, coming away with the victory 9-4.
Jones led the charge for the Bobcats as he totaled three hits. Jackson and Maruskin each recorded two hits apiece.
With the loss, Frostburg moves to 8-2 on the year and West Chester jumps to 7-2. The Bobcats will be back in action next Saturday, March 12 as they travel to Delaware and take on Goldey-Beacom for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. For more information on Frostburg sports visit frostburgsports.com.
