NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team traveled to Walsh (Ohio) to face the Cavaliers in a 9-7 victory on Sunday afternoon.
In the first quarter, both teams got multiple scoring opportunities, as the Cavaliers would strike first, with FSU responding with a goal from senior Jake Bowman. Just seconds later, junior Evan Dere would get his first goal of the season, as he won the faceoff and immediately ran down the field to score. Walsh would answer back with a goal of their own, but the Bobcats responded with a goal from sophomore Tyler Dooley. Walsh would get the last goal of the quarter, making it even 3-3 at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, it would be all Bobcats, with goals from sophomore Austin Sipes, another goal from Bowman, and a tally from senior Joey Boros, as FSU took a 6-3 lead going into the half.
In the third quarter, Frostburg would start off strong again with a goal from junior Bubba Love and another goal from Boros. The Cavaliers would get a goal back before the end of the third, but the Bobcats still led 8-4 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, FSU started off strong with a man-up goal from redshirt-junior Tanner Donaldson. The Cavaliers would start to mount a comeback with three unanswered goals, but the Bobcats would hold on to the lead, giving Frostburg the win, 9-7.
With the win, the Bobcats rise to 1-2 while the Cavaliers fall to 0-4 on the year. FSU's next opponent will be a neutral site game against Chestnut Hill on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 PM at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
