Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Schene’s Season-High Not Enough in Loss to the Battlers

PHILIPPI, W.Va.- Junior Bo Schene scored a season-high 21 points, but a rough second half doomed the Bobcats as they fell 74-72 on the road against Alderson Broaddus.

Graduate Jihar Williams got the scoring started in the contest as he hit a mid-range jumper to give the Bobcats an early lead. For the next five minutes, both teams would exchange buckets including back-to-back three pointers from Williams and junior Agyei Edwards to even the score up at 10-10. Schene would then go on a 9-0 run himself as he used his scrappy defense to force Battler turnovers and convert them into layups. After a Battlers three was made to break the run, Edwards came back with a contested three to put the Bobcats ahead 21-13. Another three from Edwards, a jumper from Schene, and a steal and layup from junior Juston Bailey stretched the Bobcat lead to 29-16 halfway through the first half. After another Bailey three pointer, Williams followed with one of his own to bring the Bobcat lead to 39-23. Frostburg would go cold to end the final five minutes of the half but maintained a solid 43-31 lead going into the locker room.

The second half would be a completely different story as Alderson Broaddus would come out of the locker room on fire. They would go on a 12-0 run to tie the game up right before Schene would hit a pull-up jumper to get the lead back. Multiple jumpers from Schene and graduate Canaan Bartley would help Frostburg respond to every basket from the Battlers as the game remained tied 59-59 with eight minutes to play. Edwards would get the next five points for the Bobcats, but the Battlers answered with two, three pointers to break the tie and give them a one-point lead with 4:30 left. The game remained intense down the stretch as Bartley and Williams would hit big shots for Frostburg and give them a 72-69 lead with two minutes to play. The Battlers would hit a huge three with 39 seconds left to tie the game. Williams attempted a go-ahead three with 28 seconds left but it didn't fall, and Alderson Broaddus answered with a layup to take the lead with three seconds remaining. Edwards would get a good shot at the buzzer but couldn't sink it and the Battlers snuck out a win at home 74-72.

Along with Schene, three other Bobcats would score in double figures. Bartley (15), Edwards (14), and Williams (13) were among the Bobcats that reached double figures.

With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 6-17 and the Battlers climb to 11-10. Frostburg will be back in action Saturday, February 12 at 4:00 P.M. at Bobcat Arena. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com
