GLENVILLE, W. Va.- The Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a Saturday afternoon contest to the number one ranked Pioneers of Glenville State, 117-57.
From the opening tip, Glenville State ran up and down the court using an intense full-court press to give the Bobcats all kinds of fits. The Pioneers jumped out to an early 10-0 lead after a pair of missed layups and turnovers by Frostburg. The run would come to an end when junior Arianna Briggs-Hall would find an open sophomore Samiya Esema under the hoop for an easy bucket to get the Bobcats on the board. For the rest of the quarter, it continued to be all Pioneers as they went on several runs to push their lead to 30-9 to end the quarter.
The second quarter began with a step-back three from junior Maggie Sharp, a layup by sophomore Rhiana Hall, and a pair of jumpers by sophomores Niya Moore and Kyrsten Joseph to keep the game within reach. Glenville State would then take control after numerous Frostburg turnovers and a scoring drought of over five minutes to take a 66-21 lead going into half.
The second half would look similar to the first half as the Pioneers continued to press and get easy layups from Frostburg turnovers. Briggs-Hall and Esema each contributed six points each in the third quarter, but Glenville State's pressure was too much as they finished the quarter up 94-41.
Frostburg would have their best quarter to end the game, but it was too little too late as the Bobcats fell 117-57. The Pioneers hit from all cylinders as they scored 43 points off Bobcat turnovers and the Glenville bench contributed 66 points. Esema was the lone bright spot for the Bobcats as she scored a team-high 10 points and had a game-high 13 rebounds.
With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 5-17 on the year and with the win the Pioneers remain perfect at a record of 20-0. Frostburg will be back in action Wednesday, February 9 in Philippi, WV as they take on Alderson Broaddus at 5:30 P.M.
