MURFRESSBORO, N.C. – The Frostburg State Softball team played their final game of the weekend, falling 6-3 to Chowan. Game two of the afternoons double header was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The Bobcats threatened early when senior Kennadie Batchelor drew a walk, followed by a Chowan throwing error allowing sophomore Sierra Sanderson to reach base. Freshman Jamie Roberts singled down the left field line, driving in both Batchelor and Sanderson for two Bobcat runs. Shortly after, sophomore Sydney Theobald drew a walk where pinch runner freshman Laura Gilford was able to reach home on a passed ball. Chowan answered in the bottom of the first scoring two runs making the score after one inning 3-2 Frostburg.
Chowan pitcher Bailey Wilcox entered the game one out into the second inning, looking to gain control and slow down the Bobcat bats after a quick three run first inning. Freshman Katie Chapple pitched two and two thirds innings, followed by Theobald who finished out the final three and a third innings for the Bobcats. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth that Chowan was able to push two more runs across the plate, followed by a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Bobcat's offense was unable to answer which left the final score at 6-3 in favor of Chowan.
Sunday afternoons loss causes the Bobcats to fall to 2-5 on the season, while Chowan improves to 3-14. Frostburg will be back in action next weekend as they travel to Wilson, NC on Saturday for a double header against Barton with games at 12 and 2 PM.
