NEWARK, Del.- The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team traveled to face Wilmington (Del.) on Saturday afternoon in an 18-15 loss.
In the first quarter, the Wildcats got off to a hot start, getting off to a five-goal lead before sophomore Anna Kearney got her day started with a goal from a free position shot. WILMU would get two more goals, but the Bobcats would end the quarter on a high note with junior Cammie Schniedwind hitting a rocket shot off a draw control won by senior Chloee Johnson to end the first quarter 7-2 Wilmington.
In the second quarter, the Wildcats got the first two goals, but FSU responded with goals from seniors Stephanie King and Lindsay Kohlmann. Kearney added another goal on a man-up opportunity, then scored again after junior Maura O'Neill added her first of the day to get within two, but the Wildcats would get one last goal off going into halftime with the lead, 10-7.
In the third quarter, the Bobcats would get the ball rolling with two great goals from Kearney and O'Neill. After the Wildcats were a man-down, freshmen Sarah Allgaier and Julia Badolato would get their first collegiate goals to tie the game either side of a Wilmington goal, taking the score to 11-11 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Frostburg took their first lead of the game with a shot from Kearney. Freshman Kerri Hayes would get her own goal off a free position shot, making it a two-goal lead for the Bobcats. WILMU would answer back, but junior Lilly Stephens would score to keep it a two-goal game. The Wildcats then went on a five-goal run to get back into the lead at 17-14. Hayes scored another goal, but Wilmington tacked one last goal on with a second left to win 18-15.
Kearney would end the night with five goals, while Schniedwind had five assists of her own.
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 0-3 while the Wildcats rise to 1-0 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action on the road against Shepherd on Saturday, March 5 at 1 PM. For more information and updates, visit
