Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Fletcher's 33 Not Enough in Men's Basketball Loss to D&E

ELKINS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team lost at Davis & Elkins by a score of 97-84 on the road Tuesday night.

The Bobcats came out against a Senators team that couldn't have asked for a better start at home, as the hosts jumped out to an 11-0 start before the Bobcats took an early timeout and found their first points of the game from senior Agyei Edwards scoring an old fashioned three-point play. D&E wouldn't stop their offense, pushing the lead as far as 24-5. With 8:35 left in the first half, Edwards knocked down a pair of free-throws that was then followed by a basket from graduate Bo Schene. With the score now 32-14, FSU forced a turnover followed by a big three from graduate Juston Bailey. Junior Tairell Fletcher ended the half with a pair of free throws and got a layup as time expired in the half to make the score 59-41 Senators.

Down big, the Bobcats came out of the half looking for a spark, which was provided by graduate Vincent Smalls hitting a floater for the first bucket. Redshirt junior Jason Murphy made his impact by getting his own rebound and finishing near the rim to make the deficit 15 at 65-50. Smalls then hit a three to continue to cut into the lead, getting the score to 67-55. Senior Torrin Stephens hit an and-one from the line to get FSU within single digits, 69-60 with 15 minutes to go in the game. Fletcher went over the 30-point mark with a made three to cut the D&E lead to six at 79-73. The Frostburg big man Murphy had back-to-back shots from the paint rattle out but got his own rebound and finished it off the third time of asking to bring the score to 82-75. The Senators would stretch the lead out to double digits several times with the Bobcats putting the press on, as the FSU comeback would run out of gas with D&E finishing things off with a 97-84 win.

Fletcher would finish as the top point-getter for the Bobcats at 33 and also provided five assists to lead the team, as Edwards pulled in a team-high 10 boards to go along with a pair of steals.

With the loss, the Bobcats move to 2-3 on the season and the Senators move to 4-1. FSU will play again Saturday, November 26 on the road against Felician with a 7 PM tipoff. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
