Field Hockey Drops Road Contest to #2 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Frostburg State field hockey team traveled to take on  second-ranked East Stroudsburg in a 5-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.

In the first period, both teams would trade possessions and scoring chances early on, with the Warriors getting the first opportunity of the game 30 seconds in, though senior goalkeeper Madison Manalansan was there to make the save. FSU had their first attack with just under four minutes on the clock, with Macy Layfield having a chance inside the arc that was blocked. The Frostburg defense and Manalansan combined to prevent four ESU scoring chances late in the quarter to go into the second at 0-0.

East Stroudsburg turned up the pressure in quarter two, forcing Manalansan into four saves within the first 10 minutes as FSU clung onto the tie. The Warrior attack had too much momentum in the end, scoring a pair of goals two minutes apart at the end of the quarter to go ahead 2-0 at halftime.

After another Manalansan save to open the third, sophomore Femke Hofkamp tried to give the Bobcats a route back into the game, but her shot went wide three and a half minutes in. The Warriors capitalized on the miss with another pair of quick goals midway through the quarter for a 4-0 lead. Manalansan and junior Maddie Wallis both produced saves late on to take the contest into the final frame.

The fourth quarter featured little offense from each side, as Manalansan made one final save and ESU scored their fifth and final goal to come away with the 5-0 win.

With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 7-10 while ESU rises to 13-1 on the season. Frostburg will be back in action for the second straight day on Sunday, October 30 at 11 AM for their season finale at Mercy College. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com.
