Men's Soccer Draws Eight-Goal Thriller with West Liberty

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team hosted West Liberty on Wednesday, with an offensive showcase leading to a final score of 4-4.

The Hilltoppers came out in the early minutes Wednesday's game firing, forcing Bobcat graduate keeper Parker Shugars to make a great save in the third minute. Possession would go back and forth between the two teams, with each side struggling to maintain possession. West Liberty would get on the board first, scoring a goal in the ninth minute off a free kick that was flicked on and deflected into the net. The Bobcats would waste no time responding with a goal of their own from freshman Renzo Vargas less than a minute later, who tapped home a fantastic cross from freshman Blake Hoskins. Frostburg would keep the offensive momentum going, scoring their second goal in the 19th minute from junior Alex Grasso. The Hilltoppers responded to tie the game in the 30th minute to make the score 2-2. FSU, however, would get the last laugh of the half, taking a 3-2 lead with a goal from freshman Danny Caparotti after a free kick by junior Gage Adam was headed across the box by sophomore Zach Harpel.

The second half would open with both teams fighting to maintain possession, as Frostburg again took the early advantage, with Vargas finding the back of the net for the second time in the match. The Bobcats would fail to hold off the Hilltopper offense, who went on to cut the Bobcat lead to 4-3 in the 56th minute. West Liberty continued their offensive push, coming back to tie the game in the 61st minute, as neither team found a winner in the last half hour for the 4-4 draw.

With Wednesday's tie, Frostburg moves to 3-6-5 on the year, while West Liberty is now 1-9-3 on the season. FSU will return to action on Sunday, October 16 as they host Notre Dame (Ohio) for a 2 PM kickoff. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
