Wheeling, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's basketball team lost on the road to Wheeling by a score of 97-80.
Frostburg took the lead on the first points of the game with a jump shot from freshman Justin Roseme. After both sides traded buckets, the Cardinals toook a lead which they would not relinquish for the rest of the first half. The Bobcats got within striking distance of the Cardinals several times throughout the half. A layup from junior Agyei Edwards, where he also drew the foul and converted the free throw got FSU within one at a score of 10-9. The gap was closed again at the halfway point when junior Micheal Tate Jr. made a layup and Edwards made two free throws to get the Bobcats to a three-point game on the next trip down the court. Wheeling, however, extended their halftime lead on a last-second three that made the score 45-35.
In the second half, the Cardinals extended their lead, but a three from Tate Jr. made the score 52-41. FSU got the lead back into single digits on layups from Roseme and Tate, but the Cardinals were then able to stretch the lead to as many as 17 points. The Bobcats again made a late push, getting the deficit back to nine when graduate Canaan Bartley scored in the paint to make the score 85-76. Wheeling again reclaimed momentum and finished the game off, defeating Frostburg 97-80.
Edwards led FSU with 24 points, while Tate Jr. added 22 points off the bench and had a pair of steals in the effort.
The loss takes the Bobcats' record to 5-11 on the season, while Wheeling improves to 5-11. Frostburg will return to action Wednesday, January 19 when they host West Virginia Wesleyan at Bobcat Arena, with tip time set for 7:30 p.m. Visit
