Field Hockey Wins First Game of The Season

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Bobcats Field Hockey team secured their first victory of the 2021 season against the Seton Hill Griffins on Tuesday night at Bobcat Stadium.

In the second matchup between the Bobcats and Griffins for this year, Frostburg State found the back of the net first. Junior Emily Hughes scored her first goal of the year on a pass from junior Taylor Henderson. The goal was a great motivator for the team, as they played with a notable pep in their step after taking the lead. The scoring would taper off into a well-balanced defensive matchup throughout the rest of the 1st quarter as well as the others until the 4th quarter began.

Moving into the 4th, the Griffins began to surge on the offensive end threatening to score. They were able to break into the scoring column with a goal nine minutes left to tie the game at 1-1. However, a few minutes later with 5:42 left on the clock the Bobcats scored a goal off of a corner to take the lead, or so they thought. That goal would be disallowed, and the score remained 1-1.

Later in the 4th quarter, the Bobcats did break through on a corner with a goal from Henderson, her first goal of the season and second point of the night as FSU took the lead. The final seconds ran off the clock and the Bobcats secured victory at home for the first time. The Bobcats improved to 1-7 on the season with the victory.

The next field hockey matchup for FSU with be against the Kutztown Golden Bears on October 1st, 6 pm at Bobcat Stadium. The second game of three this week for the Bobcats with a third matchup against Bloomsburg coming up on Sunday afternoon. For more information, make sure to check frostburgsports.com.
