Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bobcats Narrowly Drop Road Contest to Sixth-Ranked Senators

ELKINS, W Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team fell 1-0 at No. 6 Davis & Elkins on a rain-soaked night in Elkins, W. Va.

The Senators opened the game with a fair amount of pressure on the Bobcats, having two corners and three shots before the 10-minute mark. Frostburg saw their first chance on a corner kick that was heading towards goal but found the arms of keeper Jeremy Coste. Senior goalkeeper Joel Assal made a great save to push a shot over the crossbar and keep the game at 0-0 around 20 minutes into the half. The Senators' continued pressure led to the only goal of the game at the 25-minute mark, making the score 1-0 courtesy of Yavi Ortiz. Frostburg had a promising chance soon after with a two on one breakaway but were unable to find the goal as the shot from senior Malek Shedid went high.

The rain began to fall harder as the second half got under way. The Bobcats had a good look at goal on a ball crossed into freshman Josecarlos Martinez, but his shot was hit straight at Coste. Assal made another fine save, blocking a dipping shot from outside the box to keep FSU within arm's reach.

Time expired with the Bobcats unable to find an equalizing goal, with a final score of 1-0. Assal made six saves on the night, allowing just the lone goal.

Frostburg falls to 3-2-1 on the year while D+E improves to 5-0. The Bobcats return to action when they host Notre Dame (Ohio) Sunday, September 26 for a 2:30 PM kickoff. For updates and more information please visit www.frostburgsports.com.
