WHEELING, W. Va.- Frostburg State men's soccer took their first loss of the season against Wheeling on Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 on the road.
The Cardinals struck early in the 10th minute, but just 10 minutes later freshman defender Matthew Garrett scored his first Bobcat goal to even the game at 1-1. A goal on 61 minutes would put Wheeling back on top for good, as despite some late FSU pressure, they weren't able to find an equalizer.
Sophomore defender Alex Retzos and freshman forward Galo Cappelletti both had two shots and one shot on goal. Senior forward Malek Shedid and graduate Randy Putnam had two shots on goal as well. Senior goalkeeper Joel Assal saw his clean sheet streak ended, but finished the day with seven saves.
FSU falls to a 3-1-1 record and WU rises to 3-1 on the season. The Bobcats next travel to Elkins, W. Va to challenge the Senators of Davis & Elkins on Wednesday, September 22. For more information and updates, visit www.frostburgsports.com
