Bobcats Dominate Battlers in Convincing Win

PHILIPPI, W. Va.- Frostburg State Women's Soccer got back to the .500 mark on the season with a dominating 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus on Wednesday evening.

The Bobcats wasted no time getting on the front foot, as with just three minutes gone on the clock, freshman Keely Knotts fired a shot from the right side that was well-saved by Olivia Kqira. The rebound would fall right to sophomore Caroline Burton, who fired in low from six yards out to give FSU the 1-0 lead, also giving Knotts her first collegiate assist.

Freshman Carolyn DeSena would test Kqira twice more on seven minutes with back-to-back attempts, but Kqira was up to the task. Senior Audra Curtin would then get her chances on goal, at 15:30 and 17:30, but again Kqira was there to save. Sophomore Toni Fiocco-Mizer would be the next to get opportunities, as she was played in on 36 minutes, but Kqira did well to smother her two efforts one after the other.

Frostburg would double their advantage just before the half with the goal of the season so far from senior Mackenzie Folch. The defender picked up the ball 45 yards out, took a couple dribbles forward and fired a missile from 35 yards out over Kqira for a 2-0 advantage and her first collegiate goal.

The Bobcats again would get on the board quickly to start the second half, as just a minute and a half in, freshman Cat Smith played a wonderful ball over the top that senior Lexi Pate latched onto. As Kqira came rushing out, Pate lofted a brilliant chip shot into the net for the 3-0 lead.

Frostburg would continue to pepper the Battler net with shots, but couldn't find a fourth goal past Kqira, as she finished with 14 saves. FSU outshot AB 31-3, with 17 shots on target to none.

The Bobcats return to action Sunday, September 19 at Wheeling, with kick-off at 1 p.m. For more information and updates, stay tuned to frostburgsports.com.
