Field Hockey Falls to Newberry 4-0

LINDENWOOD, Mo.- On Sunday afternoon, the Frostburg State Field Hockey team fell to Newberry 4-0.

Newberry scored in every quarter and outshot the Bobcats 21-6.

The Wolves started the scoring seven minutes in when Lily Drury sent a penalty corner in and received a pass back from Caitlin Wassermann and Drury found the back of the goal for the Wolves.

With time running down in the second quarter, Bella Focht stung a shot by junior Madison Manalansan on a cross from Drury to help Newberry take a 2-0 lead into the half.

Drury struck again when she took a pass from Marissa Plumer with 14 seconds left in the third quarter and drilled another ball by Manalansan to make it 3-0.

Newberry finished their scoring four minutes into the fourth quarter when Millie Gallagher welcomed a pass from Sanne Pronk and then preceded to sneak it by Manalansan for the Wolves fourth and final goal of the contest.

Frostburg had their best chances late in the game when sophomore Skylar Slimmer, junior Taylor Henderson, sophomore Heidi Van Dyke, and Slimmer again all had chances to put the Bobcats on the board, but keeper Grace Lee denied all four attempts.

Drury led Newberry with a pair of goals and an assist while freshman Olivia Wenzel led the Bobcats with a shot and three defensive saves.

The loss puts the Bobcats at 0-4 on the year and Newberry moves to 3-1. Frostburg will make their way home and prepare for their first home game of the year which is an evening contest against Slippery Rock on Wednesday, September 15 at 5 p.m.
