LINDENWOOD, Mo.- On Saturday afternoon, the Frostburg State Field Hockey team fell to Lindenwood 4-0.
The Bobcats and Lions both went scoreless in the first quarter, with junior Madison Manalansan having two saves and sophomore Ashlyn Cave with two defensive saves to blank the Lions.
The Lions opened the scoring with a little less than eight minutes to go in the second quarter when Izzy Folan snuck in her first goal of the year off an assist by Isabella Shannon. 30 seconds later, Allie Hosto cranked a shot that found the back of the net off a corner from Pauline Terwindt to put the Lions up 2-0 going into the half.
The Lions got back on the scoreboard a little more than four minutes into the third quarter when Makenna Rugani followed her own shot that was blocked by Manalansan and stuck her second attempt in the goal to go up 3-0. Four minutes later off a penalty corner from Hosto, Rachel Goebel hammered a shot that snuck past Manalansan and a Bobcat defender to make the score 4-0. The Bobcats had a chance to answer late in the third when junior Taylor Henderson had a shot that was saved by Lion keeper Yamilet Bravo-Ayala. A few seconds later, freshman Ava Waddell had her go at goal and her shot was saved once again by Bravo-Ayala.
There was no scoring in the fourth and the Lions completed a 4-0 shutout on the Bobcats. Manalansan had 10 saves and sophomore Maddie Wallis had six defensive saves for Frostburg. Along with Henderson and Waddell, senior Taylor Hackett, freshman Olivia Wenzel, sophomore Emilie Bonhivert, and junior Morgan Matthews all had a shot on goal for the Bobcats.
Frostburg moves to 0-3 on the year, while the Lions push their record over .500 at 3-2. The Bobcats are right back in action tomorrow, Sunday September 12 at 11 a.m. (10 a.m. Central) against Newberry.
