FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team posted a big win Saturday afternoon defeating the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks by a final score of 11-10 on senior day. The Bobcats were led by graduate Paul Ruppert with five goals and four ground balls.

The win moves the Bobcats to 6-2 on the season while the Redhawks fall to 6-4.

Ruppert got the scoring going for Frostburg netting the first goal of the game at the 13:38 mark. The Redhawks answered with back-to-back goals to take the lead 2-1. The Bobcats tied it the game at 2-2 with a goal from junior Matt Ward off an assist from sophomore Bubba Love. After Roberts Wesleyan took the lead at 3-2, Ruppert tied the game with a goal two minutes later tying the game at 3-3.

Frostburg shut out the visitors in the second frame, scoring three goals of their own to take the lead at 6-3 going into halftime. Ruppert netted a man-up goal off an assist from junior Jake Bowman at the 10-minute mark. At 7:34, sophomore Ty Oehlerking netted his first goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Justin Hulse to make it 5-3. With one second remaining in the half, Ward scored his second of the day of an assist from Love, taking a 6-3 lead into halftime.

The Redhawks came out of halftime scoring three goals to tie the game at 6-6. Ruppert put the Bobcats back on top after senior Sam Natvig won the faceoff and brought the ball down on a fast break, connecting with Ruppert to take the lead at 7-6. Â Ruppert the netted his fourth goal of the game before Love scored to put Frostburg up 9-6 at the 7:00 mark in the third. Roberts Wesleyan made things interesting with a goal late in the third quarter to cut the FSU lead to two at 9-7.

Love scored a goal three minutes into the fourth quarter to increase the Frostburg lead to three at 10-7. The Redhawks scored back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to one at 10-9. With three minutes left in the fourth, Frostburg went on a man-up opportunity and capitalized with a goal from Ward to take a 11-9 lead. Roberts Wesleyan scored with 1:39 left to play. The Bobcats came up with a big defensive stand to win the game 11-10.

Graduate goalkeeper Jack Marks picked up 11 saves in the win for the Bobcats while Natvig went 10-20 at the faceoff dot. The Bobcats were 100% on clears in the game going 18/18. Senior Colson Gregory led the defense with two caused turnovers and one groundball while senior Dante York recorded one caused turnover and three groundballs on the day.
