Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Frostburg Takes Season Sweep of West Virginia Wesleyan in Double OT

BUCKHANNON, W. Va.- The Frostburg State women's soccer team earned their second 1-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan this season, by way of a goal from junior Audra Curtin in the 101st minute. The win puts FSU at 4-1-1 on the year, while Wesleyan falls to 5-2, with both losses coming to Frostburg.

The game started out even, with neither side able to conjure a chance until the 12th minute, when a free kick taken from 30 yards out by first-year Lela Clark was saved by Ally Moore. Neither side created a meaningful chance until the 41st minute, as sophomore Charlotte Davis danced around the edge of the 18, creating space for a left-footed shot, but it was straight at Moore.

FSU almost took the lead going into halftime, as first-year Hannah Thompson unleashed a strike inside the 18 that rattled the crossbar but stayed out, keeping the score at 0-0. Frostburg's defense did not allow a Wesleyan shot the entire first half.

Wesleyan would come out stronger in the second half, getting off four shots to Frostburg's one in the first 33 minutes, but neither side was able to get anything on target. Thompson was able to get the only shot of the second half on target for FSU, after being played through by some nice footwork from Curtin, but her shot was straight at Moore. The half would end 0-0 to take the game into overtime.

FSU dominated the first overtime, outshooting Wesleyan 3-0, but were unable to find the winning goal. They wouldn't have to wait long in the second overtime to get their goal. Junior defender Mackenzie Folch picked up a loose pass just inside her own half, surged through the Wesleyan defense and played a pass to Curtin, who turned at the edge of the 18 and fired a shot past Moore to win it for Frostburg.

The goal was Curtin's team-leading fourth of the season, all of them being game-winners. Folch picked up her first career assist and first-year goalkeeper Ashley Bilger earned her third clean sheet of the year, tied for second in the conference.

Frostburg returns home for their next game, as they host Davis & Elkins at Bobcat Stadium on Friday, April 9, with kick-off set for 6 p.m. For more information head to frostburgsports.com.
