Bobcats Take Second Game on Ramey Home Run

WEST LIBERTY, W Va. – The Frostburg State softball team split with West Liberty this afternoon. The Bobcats drooped the first game 5-0 and prevailed over the Hilltoppers in the second game 1-0. This moves the Bobcats record to 9-4 and the Hill Toppers to 9-9 on the year.

In the opening game, the Bobcats gave the ball to first-year Sydney Theobald. The Hilltoppers were able to get off to a good start scoring two runs in the first. The Bobcats threatened in the first, getting senior Kat Treff into scoring position with no outs. The first ended with Treff stranded at third and a runner on second.

West Liberty was able to chase Theobald in the second after putting up two more runs making the score 4-0. Senior Emily Talbert came in for the Bobcats in relief and was able to finish out the second and work through the game only giving up one run in the fourth inning.

Frostburg tried to make a push in the fifth inning when senior Aliyah Ramey got the lone hit of the game for the Bobcats. The game ended with a score 5-0 Hilltoppers.

In the second game the Bobcats sent sophomore Shawna Leonard to the circle. Leonard threw a complete game, two hit shutout with five strikeouts.

The game started with both teams sending up the minimum to the plate. The game continued in that fashion throughout until the seventh when the Bobcats were able to break through with a run. Senior Aliyah Ramey came to the plate with one down and hit a home run over the left center wall. That along with a three up three down seventh from Leonard would be all the Bobcats would need to take down the Hilltoppers by a final score of 1-0.

The Bobcats are back in action on Wednesday, April 7 for a doubleheader at home against the Fairmont State Falcons. The first game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. For more information go to www.frostburgsports.com
